Nothing to fancy here just a big cast block 159 ci diesel and a its only pushing 140 hp, and double that for the torque but that will change after its all running in the vehicle. It is going in my 1990 chev blazer the black one that I had at ace last year if anyone remembers it. It is a few lbs heavier than the tbi 350 it is replacing but for this build im going for fuel milage and being able to pull my other project, I have been doing some reasearch and I should get around high 30 mpg on the highway and hight 20s in town. After it has been sitting for a while apparently 3 years i swapped the oil out hooked up a few hoses and cranked her over fired right up and idled up pretty fast going to have to double check the governor linkages befor i get to carried away. Its a crazy swap and will take some time i will keep it as up to date as I can.

Here is a vid of a 3-53t (same as in pictures) in a Jeep its pretty sweet.

RE: Shoe horning engine job
There is a guy in our club in Ft McMurray that is the master of all things chevy swap. He has swapped every chev tranny and motor combo there is, OK I exagerate, but he has done several diesel swaps in Blazers and rebuilds nv4500's and chev diesels for fun when he has time. I think he was at ACE last year with a diesel Blazer. Look for Russel on Jeeps of McMurray. Good Luck

I saw Russel last year at ACE he had the 6.2L blazer, after ACE I saw it up for sale on kijiji. This diesel swap is going to be difficult because of the height and the industrial bell housing pattern that i will have to make an adaptor for, or get one ordered from the states.

RE: Shoe horning engine job
If i get down to ace it will be for the weekend cause i couldnt book it off work. We will see the blazer isnt apart yet, but i did get the detroit running nicely today. I am thinking that the stock corperate 10 bolt 8.5" wont be up for carrying around a 1000 lb engine. Might have to do a diff swap then my daily driver will have heavier diffs then my off road rig...

RE: Shoe horning engine job
Alright so a short update to the project. I got the governor linkages all figured out for making run idle and shut off, it purrs like a kitten definatly not going add any type of noise suppresion device to this engine just a 4 inch straight pipe exhaust or a stack i have an interesting one planned out if i decide to go that route.

Ok so the plan is to use my stock TH700R4 transmission and transfer case, and see how it handles the little torque monster. I custom ordered a torque converter with a 1200 rpm stall so I can keep the powerband of the diesel usable. It will cruise down the road 60mph at 1600 rpm. I had to pick up a bell housing adaptor to make the bolt pattern the same as a sbc and a flywheel adaptor to make the flywheel accept a flex plate or sbc flywheel it just bolts onto the engine.

I have a 6.2L diesel truck sitting in the back yard that I will steal the hydroboost brake system off of so I still have power brakes.
I will be trying to get it all done this weekend but we will see how smoothly everything goes.

RE: Shoe horning engine job
Got a little bit more work done to it today.
I had to drop the oil pan again and flip the pan around so the sump is on the back side. The pick up tube wouldn't fit after so I had to fab an extension on the pick up tube and cut half the pick up screen off and fold it over so it would fit with the oil pan on. Now I have to figure out where to put my turbo return line since it was on the side of the oil pan, I am thinking of making a return into the dipstick tube or into the oil drain. I had some help so I got my brother to take the front fenders hood and rad support off. The engine is ready to come out tomorrow evening. Hopefully I will have enough time to fab up some engine mounts and set it in if not that will have to wait. I will get some pics up when I can.

RE: Shoe horning engine job
Alright definatly a slow process, since I don't have a whole lot of time to work on it. So since the pictures the 350 has been removed and the oil pan was taken off again because I had to weld a bung on it to drain my turbo charger into and couldn't get a oil pan gasket the closest one was somewhere down in the states so I used some Right Stuff and it seems to be keeping the black blood in it. Its all back together and purring again the ol' 2 stroke diesels definatly sound unique. I put the toruqe converter on the transmission with the adaptor plates. So I just have set the engine in place and see how everything lines up and start making some engine mounts and a brace so my frame dosen't split.

I was also wondering if anyone has some adjustable bump stops they want to get rid of?

Just did some fitting, the cross member and engine mounts need to be removed, the filter needs to be relocated and the starter needs to be clocked.

RE: Shoe horning engine job

Here is a update on the project havent really been able to keep up with everything I have done with it so far. I needed to add a 3 inch lift to the front, cut the oil pan, needed to get a remote oil filter adaptor. The engine is in and moves all the gauges work had to wire my own tach and pickup for it. Now just need to finish the hood, adjust the tv cable so my shifts arnt so hard, hook up lights, hook up exhaust and put a bumper on it.
