Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
I'm a little slow getting to work on this. I'm a noob. This first swap I've done in my life. So please don't judge me for spelling errors or troubles doing this swap. I'm starting out with a 99 WJ has 240,000 miles. I got with head cracked issue. Was the 4.0 straight 6cyl. Head casting was 0331. There isn't any fix for cracking head issue. Only to swap head casting from 0331 to 0630. Only issue is 0630 casting didn't have bosses for coil rail. I made brackets ground to valve cover. Appently the last owner ran to long with water in oil. The back last three rockers wasn't pumping any oil to them. I put new rockers, push rods, lifters. I believed it needed cam bearings. I quit on the 4.0. I sold the 4.0 with guy known issues of oil. With the 42re transmission. I kept the np242 transfer case, jeep pcm, radiator and all jeeps wire harness. Started saving an collecting parts to do a Ls 5.3 swap. I'm a Chevy, Toyota, Honda lover. My friend owned a 2000 model gmc seirra 2x4 had Ls 5.3 4l60e combo. I've known guy and truck since was new. Well he wreaked truck.with 56,000 miles. Anyone knows Ls 5.3 56k miles its still not broke in lol. I asked for engine transmission wire harness PCM. He needed something drive I offered him my 99 Honda accord ex ran great just no reverse. He quickly traded me. So I started doing this swap. I am a married man with little kids so family comes First before time to work on my project. So please don't get agervated with my time. I post pictures ASAP when things change

It's been done by club members before. RedRooster now has Dave's 99 WJ. They had to carve the frame out on both sides to make it fit. Not sure how you plan on getting it in there, but be aware that fabrication skills me be needed.

Ok, cool.
Do you need to cut the unibody with those motor mounts?

From what I can tell from eye ball I shouldn't have to but I've not done test fit of manifolds on engine then test in mounts yet. But stay tuned

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Took me by my self 2 1/2 days get engine trans out in my truck. No air tools my air compressor died. I will say this tho I had no idea a 4.0 an transmission was ever this heavy. I will say the Ls 5.3 LM7 with 4l60e is alot lighter then the 4.0 with 42re transmission

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Kept my np242 transfer case. So I keep my 4x4 gearing ratio. Only issue is my 4l60e transmission is 2x4. Found a transmission 32 spine out shaft kit for4l60e. Just going to run in 2x4 work bugs out before I buy that kit. And have pay labor to do the output shaft swap to transmission shop

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Bought set of 98 SS Camaro stock manifolds. They look like they are going to clear unibody. I'll know for sure when I do test fit on engine with them on engine

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Had to grind the old unibody mounts off the back. They was so rusted wasn't coming off. Only option was to cut them off. The back bolts I grind off wont come out. They are hitting the front leaf springs. I'm going to see if I can use an old scissor twist jack spread spring just enough get old bolt out. And see if I can find out what size they are to buy all 4 new bottom bolts

Here's the uniframe motor mounts in place. Only have 1 bolt on top holding them in for measurements. This is currently where I'm at. I still got to do
My wire harness. And I already had PCM flashed with vats an egr deleted

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Working on wire harness. It's kinda dark I tried flash couldn't see at all. Got all coating off time start snipping pin outs. This way I can drill wholes for my obd2 Chevy separate port to be in cab. Without reaching behind engine. And can run harness make look born in hood

RE: Starting a 99 WJ 5.3 swap
Is that auto correct that changes "intake" to "intank"?
Those are coil springs not leaf springs.
Keep on posting though, looks like you are making good progress.
